Pathetic Response to Long-Term Plan Submissions

By John Freer

Significant increases to rates and major issues being faced by the Thames Coromandel District Council do not appear to have inspired residents to have their say on the draft 10-year long-term plan.

Numbers released last week revealed that only 282 submissions were received on the 2024-2034 draft plan, over 1300 fewer than for 2021.

Even three years further back in 2018 saw 785 people or groups put pen to paper and have their say.

We spoke to Thames Coromandel Mayor Len Salt asking for his opinion on this year’s pathetic response and on what he believed was behind the low submission numbers.
